A Photo a Week Challenge: Abandoned

Happy New Year!

Continuing with Nancy’s photo a week challenge, here is this week’s attempt. This image was taken earlier this week in Death Valley National Park, California. Winter time in the desert wasn’t too bad, with temperatures in the 60’s during the day, and 30’s at night. It actually rained a day while there, and I hope to have a few of those images posted soon.

The image is the remains of an old building where gold ore was processed in the late 1800’s. The building is located in the southern portion of the park and was taken with my Sony DSC-HX80 point and shoot. I didn’t want to take a larger DSLR on the trip for fear of damaging it while hiking a few of the trails in the park. The Sony also fit in my pocket nicely.

Comments are always welcome, especially constructive feedback about composition, technique, or other aspects of the image. Feel free to leave something below, or email me. Check back soon for more Death Valley images.

Thanks Sheila. The blue was natural and not heavily processed. When it’s dry there, the sky is a beautiful blue with very few clouds. Earlier in the week, it was really cloudy and cold. Hopefully I’ll have a few of those images posted in a few days. Quite the contrast.
